When I enter my studio, I enter a world of my own making. The space is an inspiration. Each surface that I approach is a new challenge. I am immersed in its possibilities. There are infinite combinations of color to discover. I cannot repeat enough times how magical the creative process is. As a work of art evolves and the ideas materialize, the magic is happening. The brush strokes add energy and direction. I love to pile on paint, creating both physical and visual texture. The sensuous impasto surfaces are enticing. Rather than disturb the finished picture with a frame, I use convex edged canvas (ready to hang).

Acrylic paint allows for many varied effects. From creamy textures to delicate washes of color which can create a diaphanous quality. This versatility allows me to enable the viewers to follow the lines and shapes emerging with a better understanding of the finished piece. I also use Acrylic paint on my wood assemblages. When the relief is complete, I add layers of paint to enhance the entire presentation.

The medium of montage has always interested me as I have saved pictures from magazines, calendars & greeting cards for decades. Using those wonderful pictures allows me to create new images by tearing & cutting the edges for the greatest visual impact.

My watercolor and ink images are far smaller and call on a different interest. They are flat, decorative, and often feature flying creatures. In my 35 years of teaching (folks 5 to 85), I never tired of seeing the enthusiasm reflected in the faces when the process captured their spirit. At those moments, they shared my view about the presence of magic.
